Jesse Biroscak ("we," "us," or "our") operates SkinSimple (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
SkinSimple scans skincare products and gives you a personalized score based on your skin profile. You can point your camera at a product or enter ingredients to get a verdict tailored to your skin type, concerns, and allergies.
Information We Collect
Data stored on your device
We store the following on your device so the app works offline and stays in your control:
- Skin profile — Your answers from the in-app quiz (e.g., skin type, concerns, ingredient allergies, preferences such as fragrance-free or vegan). This is used only to personalize your product scores.
- Scan history — Product identifiers, scores, and when you scanned. Used to show your history and rescore products if you change your profile.
- Saved shelf — Products you mark as owned or on your wishlist.
This data stays on your device unless we offer optional sync in a future version; if we do, we will describe it in an updated policy.
Data sent for processing (scanning)
When you scan a product or ingredient list, we send a still image to our servers to extract text (brand name, product name, or ingredient list). The image is processed in real time to produce that text and is not stored. We do not keep copies of your photos.
Data collected automatically by third-party services
We use services that collect technical and usage data to run the app, fix crashes, and improve the product. See "Third-Party Services" below for details.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services that may collect information as described in their respective privacy policies:
Mixpanel
Analytics and product usage. We send anonymous events (e.g., quiz completed, scan completed, paywall shown) and basic device/app context to understand how the app is used. See Mixpanel's privacy policy.
Data collected: anonymous event names and properties, device type, app version.
Sentry
Crash reporting and error tracking so we can fix bugs quickly. See Sentry's privacy policy.
Data collected: crash reports, error messages, device info, OS version, app state at time of error.
Superwall
Paywall presentation and A/B testing for subscriptions. See Superwall's privacy policy.
Data collected: subscription status, paywall interaction events.
Apple StoreKit 2
In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. Payment and purchase data are handled according to Apple's privacy policy.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the App's core functionality (scanning, scoring, history, shelf)
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the App experience
- Diagnose crashes and technical issues
- Process transactions and manage subscriptions
- Respond to support requests
Data Retention
Data on your device is retained until you delete the app or clear its data. Scan images are not stored. Analytics and crash data are retained according to the policies of Mixpanel, Sentry, Superwall, and Apple (see links above).
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the third-party service providers listed above, solely for the purposes described in this policy.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information promptly. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — Request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Deletion — Request that we delete your data
- Correction — Request that we correct inaccurate data
- Portability — Request your data in a portable format

Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Effective date" at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
